Transparency and accountability are central to how the Centre for Public Interest (CPI) works. As an independent, non-partisan public-policy think tank, we believe an organisation that calls for good governance must hold itself to the same standard. This page sets out our registration, our governance principles and our commitment to ethical conduct.

Registration & Legal Status

CPI is a duly registered organisation operating lawfully across Jammu & Kashmir. We are registered as a non-profit trust under the Indian Trust Act and carry a valid UDYAM registration. Our office and contact details are set out below.

Our Governance Principles

CPI is guided by a clear set of principles that shape every decision we take. We remain independent and non-partisan, free of any political alignment and guided only by evidence and the public interest. We work with integrity, ensuring our research, advocacy and conduct are honest and free of conflicts of interest. And we put evidence first, grounding every brief and recommendation in rigorous research, data and field insight.

Ethics & Conduct

Our volunteers, research associates, fellows and team members — a network that includes writers, academicians, journalists, policy analysts, lawyers and thought leaders — are expected to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct. They carry out their work lawfully, professionally and with a deep commitment to public good, communal harmony and the responsible handling of any information they encounter. We do not tolerate misrepresentation, plagiarism, or the misuse of CPI's name or resources for private gain.

Independence & Funding

CPI preserves its independence and public-oriented character in all that it does. We remain available to share our insights and recommendations with relevant institutions or agencies as and when required, while never compromising our impartiality. We are committed to maintaining proper records and reporting, and to making appropriate information about our activities available as our work and reporting cycles mature.

Accountability to the Public

We see accountability as a two-way relationship. We engage openly with the communities we serve, ensure their voices are heard in our research, and welcome scrutiny of our work. Where we fall short, we aim to acknowledge it and improve. Through knowledge, outreach and responsible intervention, CPI seeks to be a catalyst for informed governance, active citizenship and inclusive progress.
